You can help South Coast AQMD protect public health in the South Coast Air Basin by making a complaint about air quality problems.

Residents may report air quality issues, such as dust and odors, by calling South Coast AQMD’s 1-800-CUT-SMOG hotline or report it online at www.AQMD.gov/Complaints.

Reporting complaints using the 1-800-CUT-SMOG or South Coast AQMD’s online portal ensures that complaints are properly documented, routed, and investigated by South Coast AQMD’s enforcement staff.

It is also important for city staff and/or residents to have the following information when registering a complaint:

  • Date and time of the air quality event
  • Type of air quality event (odors, dust, asbestos, smoke, etc.)
  • Address or location of the suspected source

After a complaint is filed, a South Coast AQMD Inspector will contact the community member over the phone to follow up and confirm the reported air quality issue. This is a critical part of the complaint process, and cannot be fulfilled if the community member doesn’t pick up or return the call.

South Coast AQMD also has an App for iPhone and Android mobile devices: http://www.aqmd.gov/mobileapp. The App provides real-time localized air quality information, a one-touch button to call 1-800-CUT-SMOG, and other features.
