Virulent Newcastle Disease (VND) Has Been Confirmed in Southern California
Virulent Newcastle Disease (VND) is a contagious and fatal viral disease affecting the respiratory, nervous and digestive systems of birds and poultry.
As of Spring 2018, Virulent Newcastle Disease (VND) has been confirmed in Southern California. The virus is also transmitted by people who have VND on their clothes or shoes, and by equipment or vehicles that can transport the disease from place to place.
The regional quarantine on this disease is still in effect and will be lifted when testing shows the VND is no longer active in the area.
We ask that residents do not move birds, maintain good biosecurity, and allow for your birds to be tested when asked.
Together we can stop VND.
