Approximately two weeks ago the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and the City of Eastvale were informed of a scheduled protest which was supposed to occur on February 29, 2012, near the 4000 block of Hamner Avenue, in Jurupa Valley. The scheduled protestors were comprised of multiple groups of the “Occupy” coalition.
As a result of the information received, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the City of Eastvale, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, Ontario Police Department, Riverside Police Department and the California Emergency Management Agency, established a contingency plan for the protest.
The objective of the plan was to preserve public peace and enforce the laws in a fair, impartial manner. To protect the rights of others, to include the right to peacefully assemble and speak freely, prevent injury or the loss of life, and protect property from damage.
The majority of the protestors were peaceful. Two protestors were arrested. Twenty-four year old Mathew Wood, of Brea California, was arrested for 409 of the California Penal Code, failing to disperse after being warned by a peace officer. Twenty-three year old, Charley Cooley, a resident of Tampa Florida, was arrested for 409 of the California Penal Code, failing to disperse after being warned by a peace officer and 69 of the California Penal Code, assault on a peace officer.
